**** Clinton Backs Obama's Gitmo Plan

Hillary Clinton is supporting President Obama's plan for closing the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, saying the move would "be a sign of strength and resolve."

"I support President Obama’s plan today to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and finally close the door on this chapter of our history," she said in a Tuesday statement.

"Over the years, Guantanamo has inspired more terrorists than it has imprisoned. It has not strengthened our national security; it has damaged it."

Closing Guantanamo was one of Obama's earliest campaign promises in 2008, but Congress has blocked his efforts.

The president submitted a final plan to Congress to close the facility on Tuesday. But it was meet by immediate opposition from Republicans, who called it dead on arrival.

The Obama administration's plan would move detainees eligible for transfer to other countries. Other detainees would face prosecution. But the plans also call for moving between 30 to 60 detainees not eligible for those options to the United States.

The administration said the plan could cost up to $425 million, but would save more than $65 million per year in the long run. 

Clinton's statement came hours after her presidential rivals reacted to the proposal.

Her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders also backed Obama's plan while also delivering a shot at Clinton.

"Sanders was one of only three senators to vote in 2007 against barring the transfer of Guantanamo detainees to America," his statement read. "Then-Sen. Hillary Clinton voted for the amendment that kept the prison open."

That 2007 measure was a "sense of the Senate" vote that specifically warned against releasing Guantanamo prisoners "into American society" or "facilities in American communities and neighborhoods."

Clinton's statement didn't respond to Sanders, but touted her own history of pushing to close the facility. It notes that she cosponsored legislation to do so and highlights her work as secretary of State to resettle Guantanamo prisoners.

~ Trump insists 'most' black pastors endorsing him

Donald Trump is insisting that “most” of the 100 black pastors he met with on Monday are endorsing him for president.

“I thought it was an amazing meeting. I met some fantastic people,” Trump said following the private meeting at Trump Tower.

The GOP presidential front-runner had canceled a planned press conference on Sunday where he was to have highlighted the endorsements of 100 black religious leaders.

He did so after several of the pastors denied they were endorsing Trump for president.

Darrell Scott, a pastor at the New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, stood by Trump’s side on Monday, saying that the meeting was “productive” and “constructive” and that the group of religious leaders are a “united front.”

“We voiced concerns sensitive to the African-American community,” Scott said. “We’re all satisfied with the answers.”

Scott said there were a number of pastors who endorsed Trump, but didn’t have an official number. He said the religious leaders who remain undecided are “praying about it.”

“Nobody at this meeting came out with negative reaction in any kind of way,” Scott said, adding that “Everybody in the room likes Donald Trump.”

Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, a former contestant on Trump’s reality show "The Apprentice" who is now a minister, also stood next to Trump at the press conference.
At the end of the press conference, Trump emphasized that he’s made no financial commitments to any of the churches.

Trump said issues such as African-American unemployment were addressed at the meeting, which lasted about two and a half hours.

Trump has been battling charges that his campaign is divisive. He’s been criticized for rhetoric seen by critics as anti-Muslim and questions about an alternation between a Black Lives Matter protester and white attendees at a recent rally.

When asked by a reporter if he wanted to comment about BLM, Trump dismissed: “Black lives are very important, white lives are very important, and to me all lives are very important.”

“Do not be afraid; only believe.”

And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly.

When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep?

The child is not dead,
but sleeping.”

And they ridiculed Him.

But when He had put them all outside.

He took the father & the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying.

Complexity in black church reactions to Obama’s gay marriage announcement


After the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. first gained wide public recognition in the mid-1950s, he made a special request to evangelist Billy Graham.

King was poised to join Graham on one of his barnstorming crusades, but he would do so only on one condition. He asked Graham to publicly speak out against segregation, a request Graham declined, says San Diego State University historian Edward Blum.

“What Graham feared was losing all of his influence,” Blum says. “For him, personal salvation was primary, justice secondary. For King, justice was primary.”

After President Obama this week became the first sitting president to endorse same-sex marriage, black clergy and churchgoers could be facing a question that's similar to the one that fractured King and Graham: Should my ideas about personal holiness trump my notion of justice?

The answer to that question is evolving – just as Obama’s views on gay marriage have been. Poll numbers and interviews with black clergy suggest it’s simplistic to say that the black church is anti-gay marriage and may desert Obama, as some pundits have suggested.

Equal rights for some people?

Some black pastors take the approach of Graham, who recently came out in support of a successful drive to amend North Carolina’s constitution to ban same-sex marriage and domestic partnerships.

For them, personal salvation is primary; homosexuality a sin, and so is gay marriage. Their enthusiasm for Obama will be diminished, Blum says.

“It will be, ‘I’m going to vote for him, but I’m not going to talk about him much,’ ” Blum says. “It’s the difference between voting for him, or voting for him and putting out a street sign and making sure your neighbor gets to the poll.”

Others in the black church say their approach centers on justice.

The Rev. Joseph Lowery, who was a part of King’s inner circle, says Obama had to support gay marriage because he believes in equal rights.

“You can’t believe in equal rights for some people and yet not believe in equal rights for everybody,” Lowery says. “That includes the right to marry the person of your choice. Equal rights for some people are an oxymoron.”

Lowery says Obama’s announcement was “more revolutionary” than the moment that President Lyndon Johnson went on national television during the heyday of the civil rights movement and called for racial equality, declaring, “We shall overcome.”

Obama’s “We Shall Overcome” moment will force Americans – black and white – to reexamine positions on same-sex marriage, Lowery says.

“A lot of white people didn’t believe in desegregation until the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional,” says Lowery, who presided over Obama’s inauguration. “And then they began to rethink it and basically came to the same conclusion.”

Pastor or President?

At least one black minister in North Carolina captures another neglected dimension to the debate. He opposes same-sex marriage but doesn’t like the energy Christians devote to opposing it.

“He’s the president of the Untied States, not the pastor of the United States,” says the Rev. Fred Robinson, who lives in Charlotte. “America is a democracy, not a theocracy. I’m not going to vote on one issue.”

Robinson says some Christians are better at being against something than for something. Christian divorce rates are just as high as those for secular marriages, he says.

“Our witness is stronger if we actually show that we believe in marriage and lived in and honored it,” he says. “That would be a greater witness than running to the polls to enshrine discrimination in the state constitution.”

The Rev. Tim McDonald, founder of the African-American Ministers Leadership Council, says he opposes same-sex marriage, but he is more concerned about issues like health care, education and jobs.

He's interested to see how black pastors handle Obama’s announcement when they step onto the pulpit Sunday.

“I don’t see how you cannot talk about it,” he says. “I have to. You can say I’m opposed to it [same-sex marriage], but that doesn’t mean I’m against the president.”

McDonald says more black pastors are talking about same-sex marriage than ever before: “Three years ago, there was not even a conversation about this issue – there wasn’t even an entertainment of a conversation about this.”

Polls show that black opinions on same-sex marriage are changing.

According to a Pew Research Center poll conducted in April, 49% of black respondents described themselves as opposed to marriage between gays and lesbians, 14% fewer than in 2008. The percentage of African-Americans in favor of it increased from 26% in 2008 to 39% in 2012.

In 2008, Californians voted on Proposition 8, a measure that would make same-sex marriage illegal in the state, at the same time that they cast ballots for president.

CNN exit polling showed that 70% of California African-Americans supported Prop 8 but that the overwhelming majority - 94% - also backed President Obama.

Black pastors who preach in favor of same-sex marriage know they may pay a price if they take Obama’s position, says Bishop Carlton Pearson.

Pearson is a black minister who says he lost his church building and about 6,000 members when he began preaching that gays and lesbians were accepted by God.

“That’s the risk that people take,” he told CNN. “A lot of preachers actually don’t have a theological issue. It’s a business decision. They can’t afford to lose their parishioners and their parsonages and salaries.”

Pearson navigates the tension between the Bible’s call for holiness and justice this way:

“I take the Bible seriously, just not literally,” he says. “It’s more important what Jesus said about God than what the church says about Jesus.”

This Is Big Trouble For Obama: Hispanic And Black Voters Aren't Registering to Vote


The Washington Post today digs into voter registration numbers that should leave the Barack Obama campaign a bit worried: among black and Hispanic voters — especially in key states and districts — voter registration is trending sharply down.

Consider these numbers: Registration among Hispanics nationwide is down 5 percent. But even more troubling is in key swing states like New Mexico and Florida, where registration is down 28 and 10 percent, respectively.

The decline in minority registration “is obviously an area of concern,” said Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg, president of NDN, a left-leaning think tank.

But he predicted the Obama campaign “will have enough money and enough focus to mitigate the problem. . . . They have five months to get the electorate looking the way they want.”

But this is why the Obama campaign and Democrats should be severely concerned: According to that Pew Research Center survey, the 2008 electorate "was the most racially and ethnically diverse in U.S. history, with nearly one-in-four votes cast by non-whites."

The voter registration for both black and Hispanic voters rose by a combined 7.6 percent in the 2008 election.

Now this:

That shows how voter registration affected turnout. And in overwhelming numbers, those voters picked Obama. He won the Latino vote 67 percent to John McCain's 30 percent, and only 5 percent of black voters picked McCain.

But in a twist, this could also provide the Republican Party, led by its first national Director of Hispanic Outreach, Bettina Inclan, with an opportunity to pounce with its never-before-seen strategy to appeal for the Hispanic vote.

“I think the more we talk about the issues and the more we have Republicans going into local communities and saying, ‘This is what Republicans believe in. This is what Democrats believe in,’ Hispanics are going to make decisions for themselves," Inclan told Business Insider.

Franklin Graham apologizes for remarks on Obama's Faith

Evangelist Franklin Graham apologized Tuesday for comments he made about President Barack Obama's faith.

The son of Evangelist Billy Graham questioned Obama’s religious views in a controversial appearance on MSNBC last week.

He was asked during an interview if he believes America’s President is a Christian.

“I think you are going to have to ask President Obama,” Graham replied. “I think people have to ask Barack Obama. He’s come out saying that he’s a Christian. The question is, what is a Christian?”

When pressed on the question a second time, Graham said, “I cannot answer that question for anybody….I accept him at what he says. If says he’s a Christian, I accept that. I’m not going to say he’s not.”

Graham issued a statement saying he regretted those comments and he accepts Obama’s word that he is in fact a Christian.

President Obama’s ‘theology,’ in his own words


In recent days, GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum has criticized President Obama for having a “phony theology” not based on the Bible, and prominent evangelist Franklin Graham has said he does not know if Obama is a Christian.

“You have to ask him. I cannot answer that question for anybody,” Graham said Tuesday (Feb. 21) on the MSNBC program “Morning Joe.” On the other hand, Graham said that he believes Santorum is a Christian because “his values are so clear on moral issues.”

Even as a significant percentage of Americans falsely believe Obama is Muslim, the president has spoken of his Christian faith with increasing fervor during his three years in the White House.

When people would spread Rumors about me or accuse me of things I NEVER did, it would deeply hurt me or leave me distraught.
I did NOT know at that time those people were just being "Haters", who wanted to knock me off of my game.

I tried to change the way I look, the way I dressed, the way I behaved, the way I Spoke, etc.,
I even cut my Hair really Short one time & tried to make it Kinky, just to gain the Acceptance or Approval of other Human Beings.
I actually went through a Total Metamorphosis: just to gain the Acceptance & Approval of Human Beings.
However once I gained the Acceptance & Approval of "Certain" People, I was still Empty & Unhappy on the Inside.
Why?
Because I did NOT know my Worth.

(NOT Boasting)
I knew I was a Born Again Christian because I received Jesus as a Young Child.
I Knew I was Closely Blood-Related to College Professors, Entrepreneurs & Politicians.
I Knew of my Native American background.
I knew I was Intelligent.
I knew I was outwardly Pretty.
I knew I had the ability to always bounce back regardless of Adversity, but....
because I had NEVER Studied God's Word, I still did NOT know my Worth!

Thus it was easy for the opinion of other Human Beings to Hurt Me, Change Me or Distract Me.

Until One Day....

I decided to pick up the Owner's Manual.
GOD'S HOLY WORD!

I picked up God's Word & began to Read and Study it.
While Studying God's Word I learned Who I was In Christ!

Now....
Regardless of what anyone says about Me, I can Laugh it off, Shake My Head & Keep It Moving.

I now know NO One Else Compares to JESUS!

It doesn't matter about your Background,
It doesn't matter about your Pedigree.
It doesn't matter where you live.
It doesn't matter how you Look.
It doesn't matter your Socio-Economic Status.
It doesn't matter your personal achievements.
Compared to Eternity, ALL Of those things are just Superficial anyway!

My Peace is now In Pleasing God because I know who I am In Christ Jesus.

So Should Human Beings Set Personal Goals For Their Lives?
YES! Of Course We Should!
So Should Human Beings Strive for Success?
YES! Of Course We Should!
So Should Human Beings use our God-given Gifts to Achieve Success?

Rick Perry's Prayer Rally Draws Praise & Ire: Politics, Faith Or Both? (Decision 2012)

Perry Leads Prayer Rally for ‘Nation in Crisis’

Standing on a stage surrounded by thousands of fellow Christians on Saturday morning, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas called on Jesus to bless and guide the nation’s military and political leaders and “those who cannot see the light in the midst of all the darkness.”

“Lord, you are the source of every good thing,” Mr. Perry said, as he bowed his head, closed his eyes and leaned into a microphone at Reliant Stadium here. “You are our only hope, and we stand before you today in awe of your power and in gratitude for your blessings, and humility for our sins. Father, our heart breaks for America. We see discord at home. We see fear in the marketplace. We see anger in the halls of government, and as a nation we have forgotten who made us, who protects us, who blesses us, and for that we cry out for your forgiveness.”

In a 13-minute address, Mr. Perry read several passages from the Bible during a prayer rally he sponsored. Thousands of people stood or kneeled in the aisles or on the concrete floor in front of the stage, some wiping away tears and some shouting, “Amen!”

The rally was seen as one of the biggest tests of Mr. Perry’s political career, coming as he nears a decision on whether to seek the Republican nomination for president. While the event will be sure to help Mr. Perry if he tries to establish himself as the religious right’s favored candidate, it also opens him up to criticism for mixing religion and politics in such a grand and overtly Christian fashion.

In many ways, the rally was unprecedented, even in Texas, where faith and politics have long intersected without much controversy — the governor, as both a private citizen and an elected leader, delivering a message to the Lord at a Christian prayer rally he created, while using his office’s prestige, letterhead, Web site and other resources to promote it. Mr. Perry said he wanted people of all faiths to attend, but Christianity dominated the service and the religious affiliations of the crowd. The prayers were given in Jesus Christ’s name, and the many musical performers sang of Christian themes of repentance and salvation.

Mr. Perry, a lifelong Methodist who regularly attends an evangelical megachurch near his home in West Austin, has been speaking and preaching in sanctuaries throughout Texas since he was state agricultural commissioner in the 1990s. Organizers for the event, called The Response: A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis, estimated that more than 30,000 people were at Reliant Stadium when Mr. Perry spoke. The seating capacity is 71,500, and tens of thousands of seats in the upper decks were empty.

“I wish you could see what I see here,” announced Luis Cataldo, a leader of the International House of Prayer, a Christian ministry in Kansas City, Mo., as the event began at 10 a.m. “This is the body of Christ.”

While those on the stage avoided making overt political statements or expressions of political support for Mr. Perry, many in the audience made it clear in interviews that they would vote for the governor should he enter the presidential race.

Liz Lara, 62, who lives in La Vernia, Tex., drove about 200 miles to Houston with her daughter and two grandchildren to attend the rally. She said the family came to support Mr. Perry and pray for God’s help in solving the nation’s problems. “I believe that God has prepared Rick Perry for such a time as this,” she said. “I believe he will be our next president.”

At one point, Mr. Perry asked those in the audience to pray for President Obama. “Father, we pray for our president, that you impart your wisdom upon him, that you would guard his family,” he said.

Mr. Perry addressed the crowd nine days after a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed against him by a national group of atheists arguing that his participation in the rally in his official capacity as governor violated the First Amendment’s requirement of separation of church and state.

Members and supporters of that group, the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation, were among dozens of people protesting outside the stadium. Others included gay activists who criticized Mr. Perry for supporting the American Family Association, which organized and financed the rally. The association is a conservative evangelical group based in Mississippi that is listed as an antigay hate group by the nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center.

Mr. Perry had invited his fellow governors to join him, but only Gov. Sam Brownback of Kansas, a Republican, attended. Gov. Rick Scott of Florida made a video statement that was played in the stadium.

It's NOT the end of the world as we know it

This just in: Doomsday is doomed. And the world is still here.

After months of warnings and fear, the Day of Rapture, as predicted by apocalyptic Christian broadcaster Harold Camping, passed without apparent calamity. Judgment Day was to have started at 6 p.m., but as darkness fell on many parts of the world, it appeared that heaven could wait.

At this writing, there have been no reports of people soaring upward to the skies, but plenty of folks are talking about it.

Jim Brenneman, a cartoonist and CNN iReporter in Marcellus, New York, said he expects to remain on Earth, but you never know.

"Although I assume that I've lived a sinful life and will probably be here on Sunday, there is a small chance that maybe I was better than I thought and might get sucked up into the heavens on Saturday with all the other self-righteous wing nuts," he said. "If that happens, feel free to have my stuff. But probably not! Let the Looting Begin! HAPPY APOCALYPSE EVERYONE!!"

Many had looked Down Under to find relief. If Australia -- 12 to 14 hours ahead of Eastern daylight time -- survived, then maybe we all had a chance.

"Rapture deadline passes, world still here" screamed a headline in the Sydney Morning Herald.

By Saturday afternoon, Australia had become a trending subject on Twitter.

"Stop worrying about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia," wrote #EndOfTheWorldConfessions.

No problems reported so far in Asia or Europe, either.

But some were still not completely sure: "Maybe the world did end and Twitter is the only survivor," Simon Plumb said.

The Twitter feed for the U.S. Geological Survey, which records and measures earthquakes around the world, was mum on the topic. The agency's worldwide map showed no major earthquakes.

Had it all been for naught? All those billboards, signs and newspaper ads, the pamphlets blowing in the wind and the RVs plastered with Judgment Day warnings weaving through cities?

Believers had said Saturday would be the day when those who were saved would be taken up to heaven, and those who aren't will endure unspeakable suffering.

Judgment Day was supposed to have started at 6 p.m. and last five long months. Dead bodies were going to be strewn about as earthquakes ravaged the Earth, they said. And come October 21, they said, the entire world would be kaput.

It wasn't immediately clear what the believers thought about Saturday's nonhappenings. But people around the world sure were making jokes like there was no tomorrow.
