Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon Endorses Cal Cunningham
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Cal Cunningham began a final statewide swing in Charlotte this morning by picking up the endorsement of Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon.
Cannon and Cunningham spoke to reporters at Mert’s Heart & SoulMe restaurant uptown, where they were joined by about a dozen campaign volunteers.
Cannon urged Democrats to go to the polls Tuesday and for a candidate with “new energy (and) new spirit.”
Cunningham faces Incumbent Politician, N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall in a runoff for the right to challenge Republican Sen. Richard Burr.
Like Cannon, Cunningham said turnout is the key for each candidate.
“(Marshall) has a cadre of loyal supporters, we have built a cadre of loyal supporters,” he said. The question is, have we been able to build this fast enough to overcome her 14-year head start? I think so, but it’s going to be close.”
Cunningham is going on to appearances in Winston-Salem, Raleigh and Wilmington.
