The Obamas Attend White House Correspondents Dinner





This evening both President and Mrs. Obama attended the White House Correspondents Dinner held in Washington, DC.

The White House Correspondents Association was established in 1914 to assist with accurate communication between credentialed Media representatives and the President.

The event took place at the Washington Hilton and was hosted by Actress/ Comedian Wanda Sykes.

Not only were well-known Journalists and Politicians in attendance but many famous Hollywood faces such as Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Eva Longoria Parker, Ashton Kutcher, Alicia Keys, Jimmy Fallon, Samuel L. Jackson and Jon Bon Jovi, showed up to support the hardworking Correspondents and more importantly to meet the popular Obamas.

Each attendee (more than 3,000) had to fork over $200.00 per ticket.

Proceeds from the dinner will help provide funding for two charities. Feed the Hungry and Journalism Scholarships.

Several Journalists were recognized at the dinner:

Sandra Sobieraj Westfall of People magazine, won for her election night reporting.

David Greene of National Public Radio received the Merriman Smith Award for presidential coverage under deadline pressure.

In addition Greene won for digging into candidate Obama's speech that addressed the country's racial divide.

Michael Abramowitz, formerly of The Washington Post, won the Aldo Beckman award for his coverage of the final days of the Bush administration.

Michael J. Berens and Ken Armstrong of the Seattle Times, won the Edgar A. Poe Award for excellence in coverage of news of national or regional significance, for a series exposing the failure of Washington state hospitals and others to handle the rise of the MRSA staph infection.
