Michelle Obama Inspires Third Grade After Schoolers To "Never Quit!"
Not to be outdone by the president giving his commencement speech at Arizona State University, First Lady Michelle Obama spent the afternoon visiting a group of Third graders at the Ferebee-Hope Community Elementary School located in Southeastern Washington, DC and encouraged them to never quit.
The children were participants in the school's After School program.
After reading "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" by Judith Viorst, she discussed with the students what constitutes a bad day and how to overcome it.
Mrs. Obama inspired the children with this statement, "Every day isn't a good day, right. Nobody's life is perfect and nobody is going to have a great day every day. Everybody has a bad day -- even me. Even the President of the United States has a couple of bad days,"
She went on to say, "When something gets hard, because it will be -- there will be plenty of things that will be hard for you all; there are things that are hard for me -- will you promise me that you will not quit?"
The children of course responded by agreeing to oblige.
According to the first lady's Press office, the purpose of her visit to the school was to highlight the importance of After-School programs, especially those established for Lower-Income students.
