Airliner hijacked in Mexico, lands safely


(An Aeromexico plane reportedly carrying 104 passengers was hijacked in Cancun and diverted to Mexico City.)




MEXICO CITY - An AeroMexico passenger plane was hijacked at the airport in the Mexican resort of Cancun on Wednesday and flown to Mexico City's international airport.

Transport Minister Juan Molinar told Mexican radio the aircraft had landed safely. The Boeing 737 carried 104 passengers, according to local media reports.

At lease some of the passengers were later seen leaving the aircraft.

Local media said two to three people had seized control of the plane and threatened to blow it up unless they were allowed to speak to President Felipe Calderon.

All flights destined for Mexico City were being diverted to other airports.
