Burr Says He Has $5.3 Million In Campaign Account

Sen. Richard Burr reported having $5.3 million in his campaign coffers at the end of first quarter of the year.

Burr's fundraising is slightly behind his last campaign but is ahead of the pace of his former seat mate Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole, who lost her re-election bid in 2008.

Burr had $5.7 million in his campaign kitty at his juncture in his 2004 Senate campaign.

Dole had $3.1 million on hand at the close of the first period of 2008. She had raised $1.7 million during the first three months of 2008.

Candidates in the race have until April 15 to file campaign finance reports for the first quarter of 2010.
