The White House Goes Green, Again
St. Patrick’s Day today at the White House was ushered in with 13 8oz bottles of emerald green dye. Keeping up with a tradition started last year at the White House, the water in the South Lawn and North Lawn White House fountains has gone green to festively start the day.
The preparations started shortly after 3 am this morning when White House residential staff mixed together eight 8 ounce bottle of green dye into eight 5 gallon buckets of pool water for the South Lawn.
The entire procedure took 105 minutes to reach the full light green color that as the sun rose, visitors to the White House could see.
Last year was the first time the fountains at the White House were dyed green, ordered by White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers in honor of the Chicago tradition of dying the Chicago River on St. Patrick's Day every year.
