Marcy Kaptur Switches Vote To "Yes"

Anti-Abortion Rights Rep. Kaptur Voting "Yes" On Health Care Bill

Rep. Marcy Kaptur will vote for healthcare reform legislation, she announced Sunday.

Kaptur's vote is a big one for Democratic leaders. She had been a no vote because of language in the bill on abortion.

But Kaptur (D-Ohio) issued a statement Sunday saying she was convinced the legislation would prevent federal subsidies from paying for abortion services.

Kaptur is not facing a difficult reelection race, which made her an important vote for Democratic leaders.

The Ohio lawmaker in November voted for the House's healthcare bill with an amendment that implemented tough restrictions on federal funding for abortion services.

But she had remained undecided on the reconciliation package of fixes because its abortion language is closer to the Senate bill's.

Her announcement comes as Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) is negotiating with the White House to include separate abortion provisions possbibly through executive order.

Kaptur voted for the bill out of the Budget Committee last week.
