Rasmussen Poll: Richard Burr's Lead Over Democrats Increases
Rasmussen Poll: Burr Increases Lead Over Democrats
Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr has increased his lead in head-to-head match-ups against two Democratic candidates in a survey from Rasmussen Reports.
The survey, which was released today, was conducted Feb. 23. Rasmussen asked 500 likely N.C. voters to choose between Burr and Elaine Marshall, the Secretary of State and then Burr and Cal Cunningham, a Lexington lawyer.
When paired against Marshall, Burr received 50 percent compared to Marshall's 34 percent. Four percent picked another candidate and 12 percent were unsure.
Against Cunningham, Burr pulled 51 percent of the vote while Cunningham received 29 percent with 6 percent picking another candidate and 14 percent unsure.
In both cases, those results show a slight increase from Rasmussen's survey from a month before. It's not time for Burr to ready his election night speeches just yet.
As Rasmussen notes: "Any incumbent who polls below 50 percent at this point in an election cycle is
considered potentially vulnerable and no incumbent has been reelected to
the seat Burr holds since 1968."
The poll had a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.
