Nicole Richie's Engagment Ring; To Marry Joel Madden
Nicole Richie Flashes Big Diamond As She Finally Plans To Wed Joel Madden
After three years together and two children, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are tying the knot.
The socialite, 28, confirmed she was engaged to the Good Charlotte frontman, 30, when she appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman last night.
Arriving at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York City, a beaming Richie flashed her large diamond engagement ring to photographers.
After spending Valentine's Day with Madden in New York, Richie continued the romance after the show yesterday as the couple dined at Abe's & Arthurs restaurant in the trendy Meatpacking District.
Wearing a tight-fitting black bandage dress and killer heels, Richie proudly showed off her large engagement ring.
Writing on his Twitter micro-blogging page, Madden said: 'Yep, I'm engaged. Very happy.
'Yeah we've been engaged for a while so your all kind of late on that. But thanks for the hoopla all the same.'
The couple, who started dating in December 2006, are planning to wed this summer.
Their engagement comes five months after Richie gave birth to their second child, son Sparrow James Midnight Madden.
They also have a two-year-old daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden.
Madden and Richie started dating just weeks after the rocker ended his two-year relationship with teen singer/actress Hilary Duff and the Simple Life star split from DJ fiancé Adam 'DJ AM' Goldstein, who died last year.
Just weeks into their relationship, Richie was arrested for driving under the influence on her way home from Madden's home in LA.
In July 2008, she was ordered to serve four days in jail, but only ended up spending 82 minutes behind bars due to overcrowding.
Since becoming a mother, Richie insists her partying, wild child days are behind her and her daughter has given her a new sense of purpose.
Since giving birth to Harlow in January 2008, Richie has remained largely out of the public eye, preferring to spend time at home instead of partying with her old Hollywood friends.
Last year, Richie said there was no rush to wed, saying: 'I think for both of us, we are going to do it because we want to, not because that's what you do. We're going to do it when the time's right.'
Richie, the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, leaped to fame in 2004 co-starring alongside best friend Paris Hilton in reality TV show The Simple Life.
Their women's friendship hit a rocky patch in 2005 when they stopped speaking for over a year, but reconciled in 2006.
Last year, Hilton briefly dated Madden's twin brother Benji Madden.
After the Simple Life ended, Richie has tried her hands at various different careers, including writing, singing, acting and jewelry and clothing design.
