Michelle Obama Welcomes Iron Chefs To The White House
Iron Chefs At The White House
If you're into the Food Network's "Iron Chef" program and politics, Sunday was a special night for you. The episode featured White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford and First Lady Michelle Obama.
The show's famous "secret ingredient" was to come from the White House vegetable garden and celebrity chefs on the program included Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse. Celebrity judges on the Alton Brown-hosted program included author/chef Nigella Lawson, actress Jane Seymour and Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin.
Both Obama and assistant chef Sam Kass talked up the garden's success and said that more than 1,000 pounds of produce had been grown in just six months.
Comerford and Flay won the day, helped by their sweet potato custard tart. A $25,000 donation will be made in their name to Meals on Wheels, the charity of their choice.
