Demint Tightens His Grip On Obama's TSA Chief Nominee
Demint Defends TSA Hold
South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint defended his decision Monday to place a hold on the nomination of Erroll Southers to head the Transportation Security Administration.
DeMint, who has drawn criticism for stalling Southers's confirmation since the attempted attack on a Delta flight on Christmas Day, said he was still hoping to extract answers from the nominee on whether Southers would change agency policies on collective bargaining.
"What I want is a few hours of debate on Mr. Southers to help focus the nation back on security, and get this politics — or, particularly union politics — out of our security apparatus," the first-term Republican told NBC's "Today" show.
